The aim of the planting design was to meet the space requirements as they arise from the requirements of the actual sport, the visitors and the aesthetic and ecological characteristics of the region. The design also aimed to frame the structured area, to complement and highlight the architectural design, to achieve a human scale, to highlight the routes and finally to achieve a simple and 'bold' planting plan.

Therefore at the sports venues almost exclusively evergreen trees and shrubs were used in order for the venues to maintain clean from fallen leaves. Trees were also planted in a manner to prevent disturbing shading of the venues or to provide shade in other areas where needed.

Under the trees, turf and shrub areas were planted forming levels, creating isolated sub-areas or "outdoor rooms" for recreational purposes of the visitors and for wind and noise isolation and separation of the sports fields.

Planting in the whole area is linear and follows the basic architectural lines.
